California water runs cold year round, and the difference between a good session and a short one usually comes down to extremities. A suit that is warm enough through the core will still cut a session short if your hands and feet are numb, so boots and gloves are worth the investment for winter riding. In summer, a rashguard or thin top is often all you need under a harness to prevent rub.
